What Neonatal Disorders are Associated with Dysregulated Apoptosis?
Several neonatal disorders are linked to dysregulated apoptosis. Some of these include:
Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE): In HIE, insufficient oxygen supply to the brain can trigger excessive apoptosis, leading to neuronal loss and long-term neurological deficits. Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC): In NEC, an exaggerated apoptotic response in the intestinal mucosa can contribute to tissue damage and inflammation. Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD): Aberrant apoptosis of alveolar cells in the lungs can impair lung development and function in preterm infants.
