There are two main types of hematopoietic stem cell transplants:
Autologous Transplant: The stem cells are harvested from the patient before undergoing treatment and then re-infused after the treatment. Allogeneic Transplant: The stem cells are obtained from a donor, who could be a family member or an unrelated donor. In neonates, allogeneic transplants are more common because their own stem cells are often not viable.
