Premature infants are at increased risk for several complications due to their underdeveloped organs. The lungs may not be fully developed, leading to respiratory distress syndrome. The brain is also at risk for bleeding, known as intraventricular hemorrhage. Additionally, the immune system is less mature, making them more susceptible to infections.
