When Should a Child Have an Audiological Evaluation?
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, newborns should undergo a hearing screening before leaving the hospital. Further evaluations should be done if there are concerns about a child's hearing or speech development. Children with risk factors such as a family history of hearing loss, recurrent ear infections, or exposure to ototoxic medications should have more frequent hearing assessments.
