What is Assent and How Does it Differ from Consent?
Assent is a term used to describe the process of involving children in the decision-making process, appropriate to their developmental level. While assent is not legally binding, it respects the child's growing autonomy and helps them understand the treatment. Assent should be sought in addition to informed consent from the parents or guardians.
