What Conditions are Associated with IGF2 Abnormalities?
Several pediatric conditions are linked to abnormalities in IGF2 expression. Some of the notable ones include:
- Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome (BWS): This is a congenital growth disorder affecting various parts of the body. Children with BWS may have an increased risk of developing tumors. - Silver-Russell Syndrome (SRS): Opposite to BWS, SRS is a growth disorder characterized by intrauterine growth retardation and poor postnatal growth. Reduced expression of IGF2 is often observed in these patients. - Wilms Tumor: This is a type of kidney cancer that primarily affects children. Alterations in the IGF2 gene can contribute to the development of this tumor.
