What are the Treatment Options for ALL in Children?
Treatment for ALL usually involves several phases:
Induction therapy aimed at achieving remission by killing most of the leukemia cells in the blood and bone marrow. Consolidation (or intensification) therapy targets any remaining leukemia cells to prevent relapse. Maintenance therapy involves lower doses of chemotherapy to ensure the leukemia does not come back.
Additional treatments may include targeted therapy, radiation therapy, and in some cases, a bone marrow or stem cell transplant.
