The clinical features of PWS can be divided into different stages of a child's development:
Infancy: Infants with PWS often present with hypotonia (low muscle tone), poor sucking reflex, and failure to thrive. They may have difficulties feeding and require special feeding techniques or tube feeding. Early Childhood: From around 2-3 years old, children with PWS typically develop an insatiable appetite, leading to chronic overeating and obesity if not carefully managed. Other features include developmental delays, short stature, and small hands and feet. Adolescence and Adulthood: In addition to ongoing issues with appetite and obesity, individuals may experience intellectual disabilities, learning difficulties, and behavioral problems such as temper tantrums and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.
