What are the Alternatives to Exchange Transfusion?
Before resorting to exchange transfusion, other less invasive treatments are typically considered:
Phototherapy: Used predominantly for treating hyperbilirubinemia by converting bilirubin into a form that can be easily excreted. Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG): May be used in cases of hemolytic disease to reduce antibody levels. Medications: Drugs like phenobarbital may be administered to enhance bilirubin metabolism.
