Diagnosis is primarily clinical and based on the patient's medical history and symptomatology. A thorough physical examination, including a pelvic exam, may be performed to rule out other conditions. In pediatric cases, a pelvic exam is often deferred unless there are signs of another underlying issue. Ultrasound or other imaging studies are rarely necessary unless secondary causes are suspected.
