Newborns should undergo a hearing screening before they leave the hospital or within the first month of life. If a child passes the initial hearing screening, they should still have their hearing monitored at regular intervals during well-child visits. Additional hearing tests may be recommended if there are concerns about the child's hearing or speech development or if they have risk factors for hearing loss.
