This shunt is particularly indicated in neonates with Tetralogy of Fallot or other cyanotic heart diseases where the blood does not get adequately oxygenated. It is also used in cases of pulmonary atresia or severe pulmonary stenosis, where the natural blood flow to the lungs is severely restricted.
