Dialysis is generally required in neonates who suffer from acute or chronic kidney failure. Conditions that may necessitate dialysis include congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT), acute kidney injury (AKI) due to sepsis or hypoxia, and metabolic disorders that result in the accumulation of toxic substances in the blood.
