What Is the Prognosis for Children with KCNJ11 Mutations?
The prognosis varies widely depending on the type of mutation and the effectiveness of the treatment:
- Transient Neonatal Diabetes Mellitus: With appropriate treatment, children can lead relatively normal lives, although there is a risk of developing diabetes later. - Permanent Neonatal Diabetes Mellitus: Lifelong management is necessary, but with modern treatments, most children can achieve good glycemic control. - MODY: Generally, MODY has a better prognosis than other forms of diabetes, especially when diagnosed early and managed effectively.
