This may manifest as decreased responsiveness, poor muscle tone, and respiratory issues. Neonatal depression is often assessed using the Apgar score, which evaluates a newborn's heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, reflex response, and color at 1 and 5 minutes after birth.
