A ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt is a medical device that relieves pressure on the brain caused by fluid accumulation. This condition is known as hydrocephalus. The shunt diverts the excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the brain's ventricles to the peritoneal cavity, where it can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
