Pulmonary hypoplasia can be caused by various factors that restrict lung growth during fetal development. These include congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), oligohydramnios (low amniotic fluid), renal agenesis, and certain chromosomal abnormalities. Other maternal factors such as intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and premature rupture of membranes (PROM) can also contribute to this condition.
