negative reinforcement

How is Negative Reinforcement Different from Punishment?

While both negative reinforcement and punishment involve negative stimuli, they serve different purposes. Punishment aims to decrease an undesired behavior by introducing a negative consequence. In contrast, negative reinforcement seeks to increase a desired behavior by removing an adverse stimulus. For example, a child who completes their homework to avoid being nagged by their parents is experiencing negative reinforcement.
