Since the launch of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) in 1988, the incidence of polio has decreased by over 99%. From an estimated 350,000 cases in more than 125 endemic countries, the world saw fewer than 200 cases in 2022. The success is attributed to extensive vaccination campaigns and vigilant monitoring systems.
