The TF-CBT model is structured and typically involves 12-16 sessions. The therapy is divided into three main phases:
Stabilization: This phase focuses on developing coping skills, emotional regulation, and relaxation techniques. It also involves psychoeducation about trauma and its effects. Trauma Narrative and Processing: In this phase, children are encouraged to create a detailed narrative of their traumatic experience(s). This helps them process and make sense of what happened, reducing the power of trauma memories. Integration and Consolidation: The final phase focuses on enhancing safety skills, future planning, and applying learned skills to everyday life.
