Premature birth is one of the most significant factors affecting neonatal outcomes. Babies born before 37 weeks of gestation are at higher risk for a range of complications including respiratory distress syndrome, intraventricular hemorrhage, and necrotizing enterocolitis. Long-term issues can include cerebral palsy and cognitive impairments. Advances in neonatal intensive care have improved survival rates but challenges remain.
